Why we’re building it

We will be honest — we haven’t spent a lot of hours on two wheels yet. We have spent them on a snowboard and we know what a buzz-killer bad communication can be, and how important it is to trust your gear can keep up with you. From friends who ride, we’ve heard moto can have some of the same issues. That’s why we want to build a radio worth carrying — to every adventure you go. Sena and Cardo are Bluetooth mesh intercoms — closed ecosystems that only talk to their own hardware. If half your group runs Sena and half runs Cardo, cross-brand pairing rarely works well in practice. That’s why most groups end up buying the same brand just to avoid the fight.

EarLink is a real radio, not a Bluetooth intercom. It broadcasts on the same frequency to everyone in the group — no mesh chain, no line-of-sight limitation, no brand lock-in. Your crew can carry any generic Bluetooth headset from any brand and everyone hears everyone. Range is measured in kilometres, not the ~1 km Bluetooth mesh typically holds in real terrain.

Depends on what you have. If you’re using a generic Bluetooth helmet headset, wireless earbuds, or over-ear headphones that support standard Bluetooth voice calling — EarLink connects to it. Just pair like you would with your phone.

If you’re on a Sena or Cardo intercom, those systems are locked to their own brand ecosystem — they don’t open up to other devices, which is a big part of the problem we’re solving. What you can do is add a generic Bluetooth headset alongside, and let the group talk on the radio side without needing a matched mesh.

EarLink also connects directly to any analog or digital handheld radio through an audio cable, so if a rider in your group already carries a PMR446 or DMR radio, that works too.

Yes — and honestly. EarLink runs analog FM, digital DMR, and LoRa, and switches to whichever reaches furthest for your situation. Digital DMR gives you the cleanest audio at range in open terrain. Analog FM often pushes through where digital gives up, including some tunnels and steep canyons. LoRa handles crew GPS positions at even longer distances.

No radio system is bulletproof — mountains, ridges, and dense terrain affect every frequency. But by running three modes and switching automatically, EarLink gives you the best possible connection anywhere the terrain lets radio work.

Yes. Your phone audio — music, calls, navigation — and the radio signal from your crew all flow through your Bluetooth headset in one stream. When someone in the group keys up, music ducks automatically so you hear them. When they finish, music comes back. A phone call comes in? Take it — the crew stays connected on the radio side. Nothing disconnects when something else connects.

No licence for the modes most riders will use day to day. EarLink runs on PMR446 (analog FM, licence-free across Europe) and unlicensed LoRa bands for crew positions. Digital DMR on licence-free channels is also included.

For riders who want to operate on licensed DMR frequencies for extended range or professional use, the option exists — you’d need the relevant local licence for those specific frequencies. But out of the box, you can ride, talk to your crew, and use everything the app offers without any paperwork.
